Indian Child Welfare Act (ICWA), a federal law that seeks to keep American Indian children with American Indian families. Congress passed the Indian Child Welfare Act in 1978 in response to the alarmingly high number of Indian children being removed from their homes by both public and private agencies.

Our Vision

Develop a safe, strong, and healthy foundation for the preservation of Cochiti Pueblo children, families, and individuals through maintaining cultural awareness by adhering to tribal customs and laws for the betterment of the whole community.

Our Mission

Cultivating seeds of care to ignite hope and strength within the Community of Cochiti Pueblo by being dedicated to the welfare and well being of Cochiti Pueblo families to safeguard, guide, and educate by encouraging self-reliance, accountability and empowerment of the individuals we serve through indigenous knowledge.

The Cochiti Pueblo Social Services and ICWA programs serve to provide child and adult protective services, case management, family services, welfare resources, behavioral health provisions, awareness events, and prevention activities to the community members of Cochiti Pueblo. The focus of the department is to offer family support services to assist in family preservation through prevention, intervention and resolvement of concerns by taking a holistic comprehensive approach. The goal for the Cochiti Pueblo Family Services department is to ensure the best outcome and treatment for children, youth, adults, elders and families in our community.
